About Me

About me

Hello

I am a Pluralistic counsellor, currently working online and from my office in Kirkcaldy. I have a background in Psychology with a Masters Degree in Developmental Psychology. I am a member of BPS, BACP and COSCA.

For the last couple of years I have been providing counselling to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

I am happy to work with whatever you will bring to our sessions.

I am caring, calm, and a great listener with compassion for all. I would like for all to be able to show compassion for and think compassionate thoughts about themselves.

About me

My name is Tina, and I am a mother to a teenage boy and a girl who are both neuro diverse. I have been married and divorced and in a long-term relationship. I am originally from Norway but have lived in Scotland since I was 10 years old. I started working in retail and once my children were born, I decided I wanted to retrain and do something I felt passionate about. I started a part time course with the Open University and as so many mums do, I did party plan on the side. Mine was Pampered Chef as I love to cook. Marriage turned sour and I left with my 5- and 3-year-old children to venture out on my own. Had some truly awful dates before finally meeting the man of my dreams. Continued my education and received a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and moved on to a Masters in Developmental Psychology afterwards. During this time my daughter had been diagnosed with Autism, learning disability and a speech and language disability. I completed my master’s thesis on Autistic girl’s school enjoyment just before we were closed due to Covid-19. I decided to do an online course in counselling skills and loved it so much I decided it was time to make a career move into counselling. It felt right and I love my work as a counsellor.

How I work

Support, unconditional positive regard and confidentiality.

Individually tailored to your needs

I trained as a pluralistic counsellor. Pluralistic counselling is a flexible, client-centred therapeutic approach that emphasises shared decision-making and integrates various therapeutic methods to meet individual client needs. The goal of pluralism is to create and develop an approach to therapy that is flexible and suited to the needs of each individual client. I believe that different people will need different things throughout their therapeutic journeys and Pluralism is a great way to achieve this. Working with my clients I like to work collaboratively with them. Some days a client may need to just vent about life’s frustrations, sometimes they will want to explore how memory, the brain and how anxiety works. Sometimes a client may want to explore self-care, feel supported and other times they may need to have their preconceptions challenged. As a pluralistic counsellor I know I have tools for every client in my toolbox.

Challenges

We all have them

Throughout my life I have experienced some personal struggles. I have been separated from most of my family, by living abroad. I have been married and was devastated when it turned out not to be the relationship, that I dreamed it would be. I have had to start all over again on my own with no family around me. I have felt lonely, suffered with depression and anxiety. I found that when I was at my worst that counselling really helped me through it. Having someone to support me, my very own cheerleader who was always on my side, who was there just for me really helped to see my own self-worth again made such a difference to my life.

Why do I love my work

Because people are amazing

I love to see the difference a little care and support can make for a person. There are so many things in this world that can tear down a person’s self-confidence, self-belief and humanity. I love watching the glow building in a person’s eyes and smile, to see the self-love and self-confidence return. It is such an amazing experience to be a part of someone’s journey out of depression and into self-care and loving themselves again. Why would I not love having such an amazing career?
